Is there a model of DVD/CD player that will play MPEG formatted CDs on my TV? I need a new player and this question came up.

Any tips on a particular make and model?

i've got a phillips dvp642-it's about 70 bucks on amazon and it's probably the best mpeg-4/divx-capable one on the market. they're all first-gen, but it'll play back almost any .mpeg, .mpg or avi you throw at it. i've got nothing but good things to say about it, it's a great deal.

Are you buying online Tantas' or in store? I ask because most of the dvd players have a sticker that tell you what they play right on ther front of the machine, or it is often on the box. You also might want to make sure your dvd player plays both dvd-r and dvd+r dvds in case you get a dvd burner for your puter in the future.
