As I was saying, I know no one from the mob. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I pick up on gossip, but this is Chicago. It's weird but a few years ago you barely heard anything. Then the hired truck scandal (or Hired Truck Scandal, as they call it) occurred, where the city was paying a bunch of money for... hired trucks... while city trucks were idling. It turned out that most of the hired truck companies were set up as long as thirty years ago by Outfit members. One of them even turned during the first Harry Aleman trial, which was back in the late 1980s. His company lived on.

The Outfit isn't as elect as what I've heard about the East Coast families. Not being Italian was not a big deal. Hump and Gussie Alex, to name two non-Italians, could never be the top guy but both were solid #2s for a long time. Right now, none of them have been very shy about taking on partners in Chinatown on a more or less equal basis to help exploit their fellow yellows.
