IS IT HARD TO BE A DIRECTOR?

Every company needs directors. Period. Especially directors with vision. In a new porn order where the gonzo market dominates and feature productions are slowly but surely dropping into a blip, quality directors are essential to creating product which really differentiates themselves from the rest of the tired market. When I mean directors, I don't necessarily mean the person holding the camera or the guy watching the monitor. In most cases, in this new world, the real director has become the male performer who can direct new 18 year old whores during the scene as the camera captures it. Generally speaking, the better the male talent, the better the scene. I'm not in any way saying that the scene is all about the girl. No way, no how. However, if you have a male performer with dynamics, it just brings out that much from the girl. If the girl portrays a coma victim like most new girls are, a superhard fucking from a top male performer will take her out of that coma. Guys buy porno for the girls; however, every guy fantasizes that the dick fucking the girl is him. That is why top male performers are essential.
I'm not really sure why alot of male performers think they can direct. I've talked to numerous guys in the business who will tell you how long they've performed in the business. They speak as if that is the stepping stone to directing, to operating a camera, to give a movie a certain vision. That is simply not the case. In my mind, the best directors in the business are those who are students of the craft. Students of pornography. Those who's goals regarding their porno vision started the moment they entered the business. I know this guy Jules Jordan. If he isn't shooting, he's watching porno. If he isn't watching porno, he's at some porn convention. If he isn't at some porn convention, he's eating porno. Another example is Brandon Irons. This guy loves porno so much, he tries to sneak into bukkakes cause he loves the process and goes out renting porno whenever he can.
Frankly, in terms of sheer, immediate potential, the best pornographers are editors. They intrinsically know the concepts of pacing, framing, lighting, composition, timing. They know the cuts. And they visually when a shot should establish and when a shot should tell a story. This is something editors have over actors.
And the best actors-turned-pornographers tend to be those who have sat in the editing bay studying every maneuver, camera angle, every cut transition, and timing. Because once you have a close mastery to these concepts only makes the actual act of directing easier and easier to the point where you can actually start bringing out ideas.
I have sat on about 100 sets and am usually traumatized by what I see. Every time I hear some actor turned director talk about creating something brand spanking new, I usually cringe. Cause on the set, I usually see the same generic garbage that is absolutely forgettable. Just because they went out and bought themselves a VX2000 doesn't mean directing is simply a point and click situation. The camera is jittery, the white balance is off making the girls look like their afflicted with jaundice, and they stand there looking befuddled without a clue of which direction to go. Not having a clue of direction is not something any director should have.
The exception to this rule may be Skeeter Kerkove who doesn't shoot camera. However, what he does is phenomenal. He has the uncanny ability to get the girls to do whatever he wants and makes them feel good doing it. Every line has his signature stamp on it, from the outfits to his heel grab throatfucks. He makes the girls feel so good that they are absolutely alive with the spirit of life when they're getting penetrated in the ass by two dicks. It's an amazing accomplishment which the camera can not not capture.
Perhaps in the future, Porn Valley will realize where the best directors in the business will come from. They will not all be porn actors. They will not always be the uncle or long lost friend of the owner of the company. The real place to look for porn directors with creative vision will be the editing bay.
