I'm curious about something regarding agents in the adult industry. I'm WAAAY out here in Connecticut and my exposure to agents in this business has been limited to less than a handful of them. But what I'm curious about is whether or not anyone knows if there are any states that require agents in this industry to be licensed? My understanding is that anyone with a phone, a computer, the ability to sell, and money to run advertising can act as an agent in this business, which means just about any one can be representing people, creepoids and otherwise.

I don't know if there are federal rules here. I think this is a state thing.

Some (many? all?) states have agency laws. I don't know how it works, but I vaguely recall that, for example, in Texas an agent is required to present every bona fide offer to the party being represented. I'm pretty sure California caps the length of a agency and/or management contract.

The concept of a “manager” is different with different rules.

Even if the agents don't have to be licensed there are rules they are supposed to follow in theory. The laws are likely to be pretty well developed in California due to abuses in the studio system in the old days.

Funny you should mention,RacerX believes there is no parasite more insideous than one who would profit from the labor of others as opposed to earning a living themselves.
There maybe rules governing their behavior but they still run the gamut from the honorable Jim South (who doesn't take a percentage from talent,and is the only one I can speak of without getting a foul taste in my mouth) to Derek at direct models (who is known for several subversive tactics,such as bringing in girls from out of town then overcharging them for basic necessities to forceing them to do the types of scenes that they are not interested in because they are here alone with no recourse)to would be street pimps like Deewise who manage their girls with physical abuse mental abuse and drug addiction(AJ,Nigel dishonorable mention)South is definetly licensed,Direct models may or may not be as of this writing and the others definetly are not.deewise is brazen enough to have a website running deewise2000.biz despite not being licensed and being a scuzzbag.These individuals prey on the fact that people need a navigator to chart the sometimes dangerous waters in this industry,but most serve only to take a percentage of work you could have found on your own.Also worth mentioning there are several reputable agencies here,not very shocking is the fact that they are run by women.RacerX works on average 5x a week and has never had an agent in his career.

My agents at Exotic Star Models, all women, are excellent. More of an extended family. I was friends with one of the owners years before she opened up shop. They run their enterprise with integrity. Also, I give the highest praise to Mark Speigler. I have my best scenes with his girls. He demands a high level of professionalism from his grils, and he treats them well. Leonard at Pretty Girl International is a stand up guy as well. He's been been around the longest.
I regularly recomend girls that I like leave some of the afore mentioned "managers" to go to either Speigler, RebsPGI, or Exotic star. I have no vested intrest what these girls do. I just hate seeing people being treated poorly. Empathy is my Achelies Heel.
One of the people mentioned by Racer X in this thread is nothing more than shit wrapped in skin. I'm not going to name him specificly in public. He knows who he is. I've been nothing but kind to this person, and he talks mad shit about me behind my back. This half fag can't even keep his dick hard for a scene, and he has to prove his "manhood" by asserting himself on his girls. When I learned of how he treats his girls, I can not tell you how pissed it made me of myself to have considered him a friend.
Probably not smart of me to write this, because, if he treats his girls this way, he is not man enough to talk to me straight up. He'd just as soon shoot/shank me in the back like the coward, woodless, bitch that he is, while I'm giving one of his girls the ass fucking of her young life, with my pants around my ankles.
I am not a violent person at all. Nor am I treatning him harm on a public message board (I'm not an idiot), or "calling him out" in any way. Because I train 10 + hrs a week in combat, when I fight, even if I win, I loose, (jail, lawsuits)and I've got too much going for me to loose, to get my hands dirty over this filth of a person. I am simply speaking my mind. No more, no less.If I see him again, I'll be sure to at least be man enough to say what I have to say to his face, and leave it at that.

Leonard is a lil bit higher that a low life driver for the girls. He brings the girls with him on his fucking drug runs, and hits on the girls.... A balding old man with no teeth and hitting on the girls does not make for a comfy situation. He trash talks girls he dislikes. I am very much aware of who runs rebspgi. I get calls for work by Shane at times. If you notice, I am on the rebspgi site in the male talent section. I've known Shane since he was on Santa Monica Blvd.I suppose my mistake was assuming that it understood that when I said "he" has been around the longest, I was reffering to the "agency" as a whole, which in case you are agreeing with me that it is actually true. Since I am not female talent, Leonard has never tried to hit on me, thankfully. I would have found that most unpleasant, teeth, and hair, or not.To me, Leonard has always been a "stand up guy". I am speaking from my dealings only, which the only dealings I can speak of with credebility. The rest is called hear say, and I have learned through life experience not to let hear say influence my opinion of someone, unless, I personaly can verify it. From my personal experience, Leonard, and Shane have always been fair with me.Clearly our experiences are different, and perhaps that is a function of me not being female talent, however, I know of several non Asian girls that are repped by them for a long time, and are quite happy (Kayla Marie has been with him since 2003. ). Yes, admittedly, he does have a thing for Gorgeous Asian girls. Who doesn't? It's a free country. His sexual prefference is immaterial as to his competancey at his job. I believe you honestly dont like him from bad experience(s).I am not dimminishing your experience with them, nor, defending Leonard (I have no vested interest, or care one way or the other as to how he is percieved). Hehe I have no issues with Shane. I love Shane to peices. And he has always treated me with respect and kindess and opened their home to me. Leonard... I have had several bad issues with firsthand. I know of several girls who will tell you this guy is shady as they come. IMO Shane should get rid of the lose baggage thats not needed (Leonard). If you notice as well, there are people on his site who are not techincally repped by them... why they are still there I have no clue. I stayed with PGI for a bit bc shane and his wife are very awsome. Glad someone had a good experience with Leonard. But I wasnt sure you did know who ran PGI, Since Leonard for a period of time was telling people and companies he ran and owned it. I havent had dealings with Leonard for at least a year now, so maybe he changed... who knows.
