What is it with Video Team? They treat reviewers like shit, they refuse to send screeners out to anyone but ADT. They ignore all emails and correspondence, even from leading porn dudes and stuff. I know of TWO very successful online DVD and video stores that have basically severed links with them and in future will not be carrying their product.
And the head of the so-called "publicity" is a brain-dead woman called Susan. The most ignorant, stupid mutha-fucker (thanks Modelgig!) on the planet.

I'm brand new to this board, so bear with me, please.

Since I own Video Team, I feel best qualified to answer some of the questions posed in this thread (in sequence):

I did not know we mistreat reviewers. This is news to me. I would be interested to learn specifics. I do know that we send over 100 review copies of our new releases (not incl. comps) to various reviewers domestically and internationally. The only time we refuse to send review copies is when the reviewer requesting to be added cannot substantiate that they are a legitimate reviewer, i.e. show us a page from the magazine or website with other reviews written by the reviewer. There are a lot of consumers who ask for review copies to get a free DVD screener every week.

I'm not sure who the alleged online retailers are that have severed links with us are, but I would welcome their correspondence to me directly: theboss@videoteam.com. The head of publicity is NOT Susan. Susan is our webmaster, and no, she is not brain dead, stupid or ignorant. She is busy however, so if she gets a PR request, she forwards it to me. My publicity is handled by Scott Stein of SMS Promotions (scotts@videoteam.com).

In answer to modelgig: we never send models from one agency to another, EVER. I know of one occasion when this happened, over a year ago, by an unwitting employee. That issue was resolved and not repeated. "Modelgig" is welcome to call me and discuss it in person or on the phone, as opposed to posting it third person here.

It sounds to me like some people are taking rumor and conjecture and accepting it as fact. Are we perfect? Clearly not, but our reputation is and always has been excellent. I pride myself on my company's reputation for being fair, ethical and responsive to any problems.

Last, to address the comment that someone made about our productions specifically, THANK YOU. We are trying to improve and adapt to a changing market and tastes. Our work with David Aaron Clark (love him or hate him), Van Styles, and Corey Jordan has recently stood out and received DESERVING good reviews from many sources.

A nice reply, Mr Mann, but I would suggest you remove Susan the braindead dork from your publicity links. Her name appears on AVN and loads other sites as a MAJOR contact. You should APPEAR, not her, if you want your company to show itself for what it is. And secondly, why do you put emailers on anti-spam mechanisms. Too many questions, all of which need answering. And why do you not answer mail DIRECTLY addressed to you. Susan should be sacked forthwith. Why? Because if she is the webmaster like you say then a decent reply to all enquiries would not go amiss. As it stands, she ignores every single piece of correspondence whether it be email or snail mail.

This is a personal issue with me: I protect my staff from unfair attacks, which include epithets...

As to the specifics of your question(s):

I did not realize her name appeared in any capacity other than as webmaster. I will look into it. My question to you is: have you sent e-mails to me that have been unanswered? Since "Toad Stool" is unknown to me, please contact me with specific information. I would accept an e-mail that references this posting. As to e-mailers on anti-spam mechanisms: I don't know that we do that, nor do I fully understand what it means. Forgive me. Again, I will find out. Do I answer all mail addressed directly to me? Probably about 95%. Some falls through the cracks when I receive about 300 spams in a row and I accidently or unknowingly delete a real letter by mistake. I'm pretty good when it comes to my correspondence. Actually, I confess: I'm lousy at returning every phone call (I get hundreds - no joke)... but like I said: I'm conscientious with e-mails. Your remark that Susan ignores every piece of correspondence is false. I will not be firing her based on this thread alone. I know how these things grow out of proportion, and not always with justification. Again, I welcome an e-mail with that alleged list of names ("longer than my arm", to quote you).

OK, enough "he said/she said". Thank you for the constructive points. I'm always willing to investigate ways to improve.

Thanks for the kind words. Here's the deal: I did the research and found out that the unhappy webmaster is from England and at the time of the initial request, I decided to NOT send the screeners because the freight to England was prohibitive and at the time (March 2003) my site was being besieged by literally dozens of fraudulent mailorders weekly, all originating in England... so I thought this was more of the same. The error was strictly mine.

An important note since my webmaster Susan has been villainized here: Susan immediately forwarded the e-mails in question to me for appropriate handling. She did her job.

I may be wrong, but it seems that this is what sparked this whole debate. Meanwhile, I agree: I need to take a closer look at our promotional image out there. Thank you for the heads up.

People need to remember a couple of things about Christian Mann, like the fact that he is one of a select few that were basically born into the business (like Steve Hirsh, David Sturman, etc.) and that he's from the old-school of adult, meaning that he's put in his dues amd walked his nuts around the block a few times.
You've got to give the guy real respect for even showing up to this pissing match.
