Mason Parts Ways with Platinum X

CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Mason has been released from her obligations to direct for Platinum X Pictures. The controversial director was formerly exclusive with the company.

“Mason is a talented, wonderful director but she didn’t put out enough product for us to continue to keep her on,” Platinum X Vice-President Jewel De’Nyle told AVN.com. “It was strictly a business decision. We all still think very highly of her.”

Platinum X so far has released two of Mason’s titles, Mason’s Sexual Disorder and Riot Sluts. Her final production for the company, Riot Sluts 2, will be coming out later this year.

“While I have created movies in the past that I am proud of, the one thing that disappoints me is that I didn’t direct as many videos as I would like to have. I want to develop a series. I want to shoot more girls. I want to challenge myself with different ideas on a constant basis,” she said. “... I had a bad car accident in 2003. There’s been a long, drawn-out court case in addition to the physical rehabilitation. … It’s sad to leave Platinum but it’s an exciting step, too, because I hope to be making movies on a consistent basis, week in and week out. I am really looking forward to the future.”

She added, “Brandon Iron has been a great source of constant support and encouragement since I arrived at the company. He’s a great director and a very caring person. … I’d also like to thank Jewel De’Nyle. She’s been a torchbearer for women in the industry and she’s one of the greatest performers the industry has ever seen. It was a real honor working with her.”

Yeah I had a little run in with her over at adt about the nature of strippers and strip club patrons- but she dealt with it correctly and it turned out to be a misunderstanding- she seemed quite mature and cool.

Rumor is that she used to be a performer, and that her sister works for one of the smut producers.

She worked for Rodney and is a cool chick. Actually she has talent, and could perhaps work outside of porn.

That was my sorry attempt at making a joke. I don't have a sister, and I've never been a performer. I started out as an "intern" for Rodney Moore, and climbed my way up.

No dicks were sucked along the way, unfortunately.

Wait, I am curious about one thing that you said Mason- how does one go about getting one of these "intern" gigs and what did it involve?

Well, not quite, Jeff. But, yes, after a while of working for shit pay for various people, it did feel like I was getting royally fucked up the ass. But, in the end, I can't complain, because it all seemed to work out for me.

To answer your question, Cleet, I was very lucky. It came down to being at the right place at the right time. I met Rodney at Erotica LA, we chatted a bit, and as fate had it, he had just parted ways with his camera chick a few weeks prior. I told him I was a big porn fan, wanted to get involved somehow, and he said he'd give me a shot. The rest, however, was not so easy. I spent the next months, essentially being a grunt, picking shit up from places, driving him around to shoots, etc. I have to say it sucked, but, he was willing to give me more responsibilities as I progressed (and of course more pay). He taught me how to update websites, shoot stills, shoot camera, and most importantly, I learned how to edit on both Media 100 and Final Cut Pro. I guess in the end, I should have paid him for all that I learned. But, I was a very hard worker, and he got a lot out of me. (And, no, I never fucked him, or blew him).

This industry is small, and eventually, word gets around that you are reliable, and have something useful to offer. Knowing people who know other people also works in your favor. I doubt I ever would have had my directing gig at Elegant Angel if it wasn't for getting hooked up with those in the know. But, it is what you produce that sustains you.
