He looks like the type of guy who did all that stuff to distract from his natural bad looks. One sees him and thinks, "What the fuck?", instead of "He's fucking ugly." You know, sort of like Marilyn Manson with makeup v. without it (sorry, MM fans -- he does have a delightful live show and hot girlfriend).
