I think it grew out of something else I read about. Before DVDs, I guess these horny neanderthals would drag their hairy knuckles to the VCR and make "comp tapes" of their favorite scenes. From what I understand, it worked on the concept that each movie only had one good scene, which they would plow through hundreds of porn tapes to find--all "traded" with their fellow CroMags--and then watch over and over and over again.
