in his defense, that was taken about the most outrageously outta context as i've ever seen done-it was mentioned in theory and he was told to throw some controversial stuff out there.

rush, well...i've never seen a less-cool druggie. he's got the bombast thing down though. the thing about harvard which actually is impressive isn't that it's the best in situations like you mentioned--but every department is one of the best in the nation. schools get hot for periods then fall off but harvard doesn't ever really fall too far behind in the chase. it's basically the terminator of academics right now thanks to the endowment--you think it's down after wilson and gould croak, but it just lies there for a second, the red lights go on in the eyes and it reloads and keeps going. most universitiies would kill to have a name like cornell west, and he was run out of here as a fraud.

and i'd take a degree from UT over mine if I wanted to work in texas in a second, and obviously one from clemson is better in that field down south. but it's not a bad degree to have in most of the country, and someone from ole miss might as well have not attended college if they want to work at bcg or the manhattan finance-stuff the article mentioned. harvard flies from cuperitino to la and it's got enough texans i'd assume it's not meaningless there. most of the wealth in the country exists in the northeast and those two places, so you've got decent odds of at least working around it. plus, your friends are probably already rich and the ones that aren't have a shot at getting rich--the connections ain't bad.
