Okay, guys, I'm about to order either an XBOX, or a PS2. I don't know shit about these things, so I need advice. Which is better.

Notes to keep in mind:

1)I could give a fuck about sports games.

2)I like shoot to fucking kill/sci fi/decapitated alien shit.

3)I wanted PS2 because Resident Evil seems cool, and they don't make it for the XBOX. But, I also want HALO 2, and they don't make that for the PS2.

4)I am a 28 year old porn fan who wants to waste even more time in front of a pixelated screen. Help me out.

Im a hardcore gamer and own many systems including a Game Cube,so I can tell from experience,get the PlayStation 2.Better games,better controller = more stroke value.

My nephew swears by ps2. He loves Shoot em up and sports. My son has an xbox and while it is close to the ps2 in terms of performance it is not quite there in my opinion.

Microsoft is losing millions per year on the xbox. There is a rumor that they are going to kill it. Too bad since they spent 5 years getting they hardware and software at a price point where it was competative.

PS3 comes out at the end of the yr. You might want to wait for it, otherwise, get PS2.

OK Bastard the answer to your question is not an easy one. There are beefits to each system. I had a PS2 for about 3- 4 years and this holiday I picked up an xbox and Gamecube.
The PS2 has the largest library of available games than the other 2 systems but it's graphics are said to be much less pretty than the other 2 machines are capable of. The controller however is perfection especially if one doesn't have giant hands. The system is noted for it's role playing games and action games- metal gear solid, grand theft auto and others come out for the ps2 first usually. GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas are my three favorite games on earth so - I will say that the PS2 is my favorite system too...BUT


The XBOX, is quickly catching up. They really did a nice job when they built this machine. It has a built in hard drive so you don't need to go out and buy all those memory cards like the other 2 systems force you to do if you want to save game progress. The system does seem to have better graphics but that really is too importaznt to me but it might be to you. It has Halo and Halo 2 which are not coming to the other consoles anytime soon if at all. They are great 1st person shooters ( like you are in the action) and the xbox controller is perfect for 1st person shooters- what with thew triggers built into the back of the thing.Then again the controller is a bit big and unwieldly to some ( including myself in the beginning). The cord on the xbox controller seems to be longer too which is handy. Apparently you can add music to your xbox hard drive too for customizable soundracks to certain games ( another feature I am not using but you might like)
The gamecube has a lot of their own games like the mario games and resident evil 4 has just been released for this system- BUT it is supposed to be released for the PS2 later this year so if you can wait. Also have you played resident evil before/ The movement of the character is a bit different and may not appeal to you.

Overall, I would go to gamefaqs.com and check out the different games that you might be interested in and see what systems they are out for- most times they are released across at least 2 of the consoles. Based on hardware the xbox is a little better, based on games available the PS2 wins, the gamecube is only 99 bucks though. So there are many factors to weigh and they make your head hurt which is why I bought all 3

Oh and one more thing I want to know which of the next generation systems- xbox2 or PS3 will be backward compatable. For example on the PS2 Toe you can also play PS1 games ( or a good number of them anyway). If lets say the ps3 is comaptable with ps2 discs and the new xbox is not that would be a deal breaker for me because I have a big library of gasmes that I don't want to be obselete in a year. I think it would be suicide for either of these next gens to not be backward compatible so one hopes that the discs you buy for whatever system you buy now will work if you upgrade to the next gen after this year. The xbox and ps2 by the way are about 150 bucks each.

Presently I m loving Mercenaries for the xbox but it is also out for the PS2. It is a combination of Grand theft auto and a war game set in North Korea- lots of stuff to blow up

I never even considered GTA because I thought it was just a silly driving game. But, I just watched a review on GameSpot, and that shit looks very cool.

Re: the clancy games -They seem too complex for me but if you like SOCOM you just might like them. Some of my othe rfavs for the ps2 are Hot shots golf 3 ( 4 is out now haven;t played it yet)- even if you don't like golf or sports games you will probably likrethis one. Spiderman 2 is another good one with great game play as you can web sling to anywhere in NYC. Try ratchet and clank if you like shooting things in a cartoony way.n The red faction and timesplitter games are great first person shooters you might like too. I hope you like silent hill 3 I returned it because I played a demo of silent hill 4 and hated it so I figured 3 would be similar anfd returned it. As far as GTA:SA goes there is a lot of driving but it is so open ended that you can do other things until your driving skills are upgraded. That game will keep you busy for months.

My PS2 just got here yesterday. I've already played for about six hours total.

I keep getting my ass wasted on SOCOM II. It's hard for me to be stealthy, as this is the first video game I've played since the very first Zelda on the NES.

I have also been playing Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. It's amusing, but sort of gay. But the young scared jap girls get me hard.

I hate all that stealth cray because I have no patience for it with the one exception of games that have the sniper rifle in them- then stealth is good.

As far as sex in ps2 games it is unlikely- except for the hookers getting in your cars in GTA and the car rocks and moans that and leisure suit larry probably has that kind of stuff.

Well, I have been playing GTA all the time. I love that shit. I like the way the game is set up, and played. I think Mercenaries is sort of the same way.

Right now im playing ATV Offroad 3.Great game but I still think PT.1 is the best game in that series.

They are coming out with a game combining ATV vs. MX soon which looks pretty cool too Jeff. I still prefer the MX games though especially Superfly. Toe I have an ass load of games for the PS2 because Ive had that system for 3 years. I just bought my xbox and cube. Since you like GTA:SA you should definitely buy the double pack of GTA 3 and Vice city- especially vice city where you play a mobster rising through the ranks. A lot of games try to be similAR to the gta series True crime being one og them IMO but it falls short. A decent game witha fairly accurate representation of LA as a setting but it pales in comparison to GTA. Mercenaries is the best GTA type game out there- I'm am really into that one at the moment. I'm just starting toi go after the last set of cards- the aces now. It is cool because you can not only do things yourself but you can call in airstrikes too.

I rented Star Wars: battlefront last night, and GODDAMN am I glad I only rented it. That would have been $50 wasted. I hate that goddamn game. Strict Third person shooters can be decent, but this one suck anal sauce.

Cleet, is Vice City as satisfying to play as San Andreas? I thought maybe it wasn't that good because it is older, but I don't know.

Try Burnout 3.

They are the earlier parts to the game but they are in no way lesser- just different, the graphics are only slightly better from 3 to vc to sa but the games are so good it doesn't matter. SA is the first GTA to add the role playing elements to the mix so it was a big difference from the earlier ones but I say DEFINETELY get VC and #3. In SA the more you practice driving each vehicle the better you get- the handling gets better, the more you swim under water the longer you can hold your breath and the more you shoot each gun the more your rating goes up- when you reach hitman level on the pistols or mini smg you can dual wield them - 2 guns are of course more fun than 1
Try shooting at an empty cars tires over and over your rating will go up that way too.

Well, I just played Resident Evil:Outbreak yesterday. I don't enjoy it too much. Kinda boring, but maybe I'll get into it.

I also got Metal Gear Solid 3. I think that one looks decent. Oh, and True Crime.

Cleet, you're going to kill me, but I haven't really been playing GTASA lately. I got to the drive through mission at the beginning, then bought a whole bunch of new games, and just haven't made it back to it. I am resolved to actually start completing games instead of just buying new ones. Also, I think I'm going to start over with GTA so I can do it right and get the bonuses, and keep my wanted factor down. Unless there is a way to lower it in the middle of the game.

Well there is a cheat to lower your wanted level whenever you want to. Also when you go back into your house it will lower, also when yo change clothes. There should also be icons on the map where if you touch them they lower it. Just so you know- you can't leave any area that you are in until you are told to without getting a 4 star level- for example if you try to swim to sanfransisco from LA you will be scrwed. But once a new locale opens up then you can go back and forth at wwill.
Dude I do the same thing- I have like 10 games sitting beside me still in the plastic wrap- I buy when on sale and then I figure out what to play next. I am almost finished going through Mercenaries for the 2nd time so I will move on to something new. My definition of a good game is one that i at least try to finish- I have a lot of OK games but only about 33% good ones.

Yeah, I actually printed a GTASA FAQ walkthrough off of gamefaqs. It was 147 pages! Oh well, that's what laser printers are for. I'm such a nerd. I used the wire binding thing at my office, that we use to make user manuals, to bind it together. Now I have a game guide ready to go.

I have gotten to a few parts in True Crime that I'm having trouble with. But, I think I like the game because I suck at most of them, and this one seems like one I might be able to beat. I bet it would be even esier if I was familiar with LA's layout. It's easier than say, MGS2, which I have trouble with from the beginning, and SOCOM II.

I don't know dude- MGS2 is hard, socom is hard and prince of persia is really hard- a lot of puzzles and jumps to time and stuff- I liked it but sucked so badly at it I returned it. You may want to investigate Bloodrayne 2. Hot chick and fast simplified gameplay = decent game.

Ok- this is funny because I pmed you before reading this- but Ratchet and clank and Jak are great series- don't let the kiddie nature turn you off. They are easy to pick up and play but not easy to master so they are a perfect game to play.
I only played POP 1 not 2 so I don't know if it is easier- if it iss it will be worth your money.
I played and liked Bloodrayne 1, I have 2 sitting here in the plastic still but all reports I hear is that it is more of the same with better graphics so I would say get the new one- although 1 is probsably about 20 bucks by now.

Yeah, I should have been more clear about POP. The gamespot review says the first one is "punishingly difficult", but they fixed that with the second one and it is very easy, which allows you to enjoy the levels and puzzles more.

Just pick up a game cube ( new it is only 99 bucks)- I traded in a few games for the pS2 I had and used the credit to pick one up near xmas. The new zelda is good but not as good as those you and i remember from ye olde days. Plus there is another zelda coming to the cube I think and Resident evil 4 is actually quite good- and I didn't like the other re games I had played before. Plus the damn thing is really small - it looks like a clock radio

Yeah, I tried RE: Outbreak on the PS2 for my RE intro, and I hated it. Shitty, obscure tasks, and actualy pretty difficult. But, I'm new.

I just played Xenosaga 1 last night for the first time, and I love it! It's so long I may not be able to finish it this year, lol, but I enjoy it. I'll definitely buy the second installment coming out on 2/15/2005.

I thought about a Gamecube, and I might do it, but I would probably be more interested in an XBOX or the upcoming(In march) PSP(Playstation portable) for my second console.

Remember, XBOX 2 is coming out(supposedly) at the end of this year, and PS3 is supposed to some out soon after in 2006.

Oh- I didn't realize you would be willing to try RPG's- if you like xeno. then you might like Balder's gate 2 and even better Champions of Norrath ( which #2 comes out wed.) these are role playing games with a d+d style rather than a futurisic one like xeno.
