dude, you need to grab paxton's anatomy of fascism--he's basically the man on the topic and it's just a really good book. it's not brutally dense or academic, i read most of it on a 7-hour flight and was as into it as the fattie with a danielle steele book on the plane. i didn't see her, but faa regs mandate several obese women reading trashy novels on flights. i digress---you'd fucking love it, he does italy, vichy and the frogs, and just a ton of analysis and grand-unifying-theory stuff that's way too entertaining to me, and you're definetly more into this kinda stuff.
