luke is unreal, an australian son of clergy who converts to judiasm while taking up porn journalism. i'm not sure he'll ever turn out the next bros. karamazov, but there aren't going to be many more great novelists if you consider that norman fucking mailer and toni morrison are considered close to the best at their craft.

the guy's just surreal and entertaining in the guiltiest of ways. he's much smarter than most i'm familiar with, but missing some major functional component of consciousness/social intelligence. it's almost like he's incapable of the cunning and competitive intelligences adults generally use daily. if he has a ridiculous idea about something, he'll print it. he's completely honest about things he's smart enough to know will be deleterious to how he's viewed by the media-whores whose attentions he covets. the dude is so casual about talking about his disgraceful sniper-van, the lithium he takes, and other embarassing and sometimes pitiful or shameful things he experiences. it's like he's developmentally stunted at 12 in ability to gauge other's reactions to what he says and hasn't even developed the ability to lie when social grace calls for it---i think the guy's hooked on truth serum or something. or rainman.
but you could lock everyone from homer to the simpsons guys responsible for homer the second in a room and nobody could come up with a more unbelievable human being. none of his contemporaries are ballpark, hardcoregossipguy's already been done in the hyperbolically-postmodern older brother in "clueless" and fayner can do all the drugs in the world and still never have a personality. but luke's bizzaro orthodox judiasm manifesting itself in interviews with some 18-year old is classic and slices through "i get to have sex and get paid" answers like everything else and right to the tawdry details of childhood trauma or molestation. he can get anybody to say they were sexually abused, it rules.
