NEWARK, N.J. -- A man charged with temporarily blinding the pilot and co-pilot of an airplane with a laser beam claims he was simply using the device to look at stars with his 7-year-old daughter.
That's very believable. Those laser pointers are very popular at "star parties" to point out constellations and such to newbies.
I never allow them on my property because I think they're dangerous; what if someone drops one and the switch gets stuck?
In any case, it may sound bizarre to shine a light at a star but that's actually very common.
