it's really the one psychiatric medicine that really, truly undeniably works and it works amazingly well. it's probably vying for the second greatest modern drug with the pill. my sister can write scripts in the field and she basically says it's the most rewarding thing she does when someone's been undiagnosed. i think bipolarity starts manifesting itself at basically her age in most cases and it's not really noticable even to the sufferer until the teens at the earliest. basically, this chick has the potential to either lead a normal productive life with some mild side-effects. or she can watch it get worse for the next decade untreated and end up self-medicating to temper the swings toward mania, and probably hooking since you can't have a real job if you're in bed then up for 4 days.
tom wolfe's latest thing had an essay on lithium being the difference between institutionalization and a pretty good life, no amount of talking to shrinks or behavior mod nonsense is close. nobody even knows what the fuck nuerontin does or whether ssri's are even effective enough to warrant mild side-effects.
this is sad, i love crazy chicks, but dumb, crazy chicks suck. she needs to have the belief in herself that someday she could be a dumb, medicated chick. she's in porn, if she's bipolar she'll end up somewhere ugly given she's basically lined up a life of sex work and she's around stuff to self-medicate. without the easiest thing a shrink can do for you, she'll be on the streets and dead early after a shitty, horrifying life.
