Is the flick about the Gay side of the industry?

Mostly, the actual 'gay stuff' was kept to a minimum. There was more sex in Boogie Nights.

You can actually draw correlations to the straight side as well, as it's essentially about a fanboy who falls in love with an image on a screen, a pornstar, and heads out to LA to get into porn, only to discover that said pornstar isn't all he's cracked up to be. The realization that all the stuff he'd jerked off to with that pornstar was a simply a facade when he actually got to know him. The heat, the passion emitted onscreen... it was all bullshit.

I also loved the way it showed how the fanboy was totally sexually dysfunctional. Even with another person, he still needed porn to get it off. You don't get to see that kinda shit very often in Hollywood fare.
