Two American soldiers have been killed by a homemade bomb in central Afghanistan, the US military has said.
The bomb blast struck a US patrol in the Deh Rawood district of Oruzgan province on Wednesday.

One American soldier was also hurt and has been evacuated to a US medical facility, said military spokesman Major Mark McCann.

There are about 18,000 US-led forces hunting militants in the south and east of Afghanistan.

Major McCann said in Kabul: "We regret to say that two US soldiers were killed and one was wounded.

"The wounded soldier was evacuated to a nearby US medical facility and is currently in stable condition."

Witnesses told Reuters news agency they saw three US soldiers being pulled from the wreckage of a vehicle that had been blown up as it crossed a dry river bed.

Oruzgan and the neighbouring Zabul province are both said to have high concentrations of Taleban militants.
