An episode of America’s Most Wanted led to the discovery that a new adult performer working under the name Jewel Affair was wanted by the NYPD for allegedly helping her sister abduct her own children from a foster home.

On Saturday night America’s Most Wanted reran a segment about Kimberly Alverado, a mother who had allegedly abducted her own children from a foster home last May with the help of her sister, Marissa Pomerico – the woman who was working in Adult under the name Jewel Affair.

The segment on Alverado and Pomerico first ran on November 10, but this time it was noticed – by members of the Adult industry who began calling her agent, Tara of Cherry Modeling.

Seeking advice, Tara called Devan Cypher of Hardcoregossip.com, who convinced Pomerico to turn herself in to the FBI on Saturday night.

Alverado was caught the next morning. Both sisters are expected to be extradited to New York for prosecution for interference with child custody.

However, for the Adult industry the issue hasn’t wrapped up as neatly – Pomerico is 19-years-old, but she reportedly performed for at least one Web site and two adult video producers without a real ID.

Skin City Models, the Web site for Las Vegas-based agent Tomaz, had listed Pomerico as 23-years-old. Pomerico was based in Las Vegas for a few months before moving to Los Angeles.

It was about eleven o’clock last night when I got the call from my good friend, Tara from Cherry Modeling. I had just come in with my fiancé from out of the blustering rain storm on a fast food run, and was settling in for what I thought would be the end of my night in a warm dim room with a movie, when the phone rang. Unfortunately I had been experiencing a high drama day, with people from my past popping up at random and wanting to have serious discussions, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to answer the phone in the first place. Then I saw that it was Tara, who is my ski buddy, hence her nick name ‘Snow Bunny’, and I assumed that she was making the call I hadn’t made to her, the one we always make when it rains in Los Angeles, the one that starts out with the stats at Mammoth Mountain and ends with conversations about fresh powder. Little did I know I was about to be nominated to help a known fugitive, a beautiful 19 year old girl I had never met before in my life, surrender to the FBI.
“ I was expecting a call from you,” I started out as I answered the phone. “ I can really use the cheering up today since it has been that good of a day.”

“ What do you mean you were expecting a call from me?” Tara asked.

“ Well it is raining,” I offered, the smile still screwed onto my face. “ I assume our ritual still stands.”

“ Sure, but I have something much more serious to talk about with you,” Tara said somberly. “ It’s really important.”

“ Well you picked the right day,” I joked. “ Today has been filled with drama since I got up. What’s going on?”

Tara then proceeded to explain to me that one of her new models, from her agency Cherry Modeling, was in trouble, and that she was trying to help her.

“ What kind of trouble is she in?” I asked.

“ She’s a fugitive on the run and she and her sister were just on America’s Most Wanted,” Tara informed me.

The obligatory second or two of silence that follows statements bearing that kind of gravity ensued.

“ And you are not kidding right now?” I asked, just because, it is better in these types of situations to be sure, before you go off down the wrong path.

“ No,” Tara drolly replied.

“ Tell me what happened,” I said.

Tara proceeded to explain to me that one of the girls she had just taken in, a sweet but shy brunette from Las Vegas named Jewel Affair, had confessed to being a fugitive on the run after the America’s Most Wanted episode ran featuring her and her sister and Tara received a barrage of phone calls telling her that Jewel was actually Marissa Pomarico, and that both Marissa and her sister Kimberly Alvardo were wanted.

Tara said that Marissa had only been with her for a week and a half, and that she had been having ID problems that were affecting her ability to get work due to the changes in 2257 compliance, but that she was one of the most reliable girls she had ever had.

“ She’s great,” Tara explained. “ She’s not on drugs and she always shows up ready to work and has a great attitude, but I could tell that she was hiding something from me. Now I know what it was.”

Tara said that an agent for nude models from Las Vegas, Tomaz, who purportedly runs an agency called Skin City Models, used to represent her, but that Marissa had contacted her through an ad, swearing she had legitimate identification, then showed up in Los Angeles with something less than that and a lot of explanations. Later in the night, Marissa would confess to me that she had been using false identification since being on the run from New York with her sister, and that she had actually assumed the identity of another girl whom she spent time with in a boarding home.

“ Before she got out her, her sister posed as her, and she told me that she had proper forms of ID,” Tara told me. “ Then Jewel gets her and she is like, I lost those, but my birth certificate is going to be here any day. She had other ID’s with her.”

The identification that she did have was a paper from the Social Security office, a check cashing card with her picture, and a STA travel card with her picture on it. Marissa told Tara that she had ordered her birth certificate online and that she was going to take it to the DMV to get her license and work.

“ I called Tomaz(Cervantes) out in Las Vegas, and told him that this girl had shown up who he used to represent without proper ID’s and he informed me that the birth certificate should be there any day,” Tara explained. “ He is the one who ordered the birth certificate. He is the one who had it Fed Ex’d to his house.”

Tara was concerned but grew more confident in the veracity of the claims when she found out that “Jewel” had already been working as an adult actress, and for some well-known companies inside of porn valley.

“ She had worked in Miami,” Tara further explained. “ She had worked in Las Vegas, and she had already worked here, for two big name companies, who I was assured had copies of her ID’s. I called up one of the production managers from one of the companies who I would rather not name, and they assured me that they had copies. I called up the other company’s production manager and they too assured me that they had copies of the ID’s Jewel told me she had lost and that I was more than welcome to come by and get a copy of them to use until her birth certificate arrived. I drove out and got a copy of the copy of the fake ID’s she was using, not knowing they weren’t real. This all looked legitimate. Girls in this business lose their identification all the time.”

During the brief period when Tara represented Marissa, prior to last night’s airing of America’s Most Wanted, she had difficulty securing employment for her because of the identification problem, and Marissa only worked for a few companies. Tara was sure that she would be able to help Marissa find more work when the new ID’s came in, because Marissa was enthusiastic about her new life in Los Angeles and the prospects of being a huge porn star, despite harboring the secret inside that she had been on the run for some time from the law.

Tara was driving Marissa home from an internet shoot she had completed last night when the calls began to flood in and Marissa came clean about her sorted past, and how she claimed her sister had been using her to protect herself for stealing her own children out of foster care back in New York.

According to the report from America’s Most Wanted that aired last night, The NYPD claimed that Marissa had helped her sister Kimberly Alvardo abduct her two children from a foster home in Staten Island.

Justin and his sister Lexie were removed from their mother's home after Child Protective Services accused Alvarado of neglect. When reports surfaced in February that Marissa Pomarico's sister, Kimberly Alvarado, was neglecting her two children, Alvarado lost custody of them.

The Department of Children's Services in New York charged that Alvarado had neglected to properly care for 5-year-old Justin Scaglione and 1-year-old Lexie Fennell-- and that Lexie had been burned but never taken to a hospital. The two children were removed from Kimberly's care and placed with some relatives in Staten Island.

But Marissa claimed that her sister had no intention of watching anyone take her kids away from her. Authorities claim that the pair of siblings went to Staten Island and ransacked the place Alvarado's children were staying. Also witnesses from the event say the two sisters yelled obscenities as they threw all of the children's belongings in their car, grabbed the kids, and sped off. None of them had been seen since, until last night. Alvarado had previously been charged with larceny.

In August Detective John Burgess received a tip that Pomarico was on a pornographic website. He tracked the IP address of the website to Florida but has been unsuccessful in tracking down Marissa or Kimberly-- but he did then have new information on the two.

Detective Burgess said then that Pomarico was going by the name Brittany. He said he was told that the porn video could have been shot anywhere and there was no way to trace her from it alone. The trail seemed to have ended there until John Walsh went on air with his broadcast last night that scared Marissa so badly she wasn’t sure what to do and prompted the phone call to my house just after eleven at night.

“ What should I do?” asked Tara. “ How should I handle this?”

“ Is she there with you?” I asked.

“ Yes. She’s in the car with me,” Tara replied.

“ Well, I think if she looks at her options reasonably she’ll see that the best thing she can do is to turn herself in,” I told her.

“ I totally agree,” Tara said. “ I think we’re both just concerned with how to do that?”

“ Can I talk to her?” I asked.

“ I would be glad if you did,” Tara sighed, relieved, and handed Marissa the phone, explaining that her and I had been friends for some time and that she trusted me.

Marissa introduced herself to me and I asked her a series of questions about what had taken place and told her what her options were, explaining that I thought it was best to call the FBI directly and to have them come and take her into custody rather than trying to run again.

“ You’ve been on television and everyone knows who you are now,” I said. “ Eventually you will get caught, and then you will be on their terms. If you turn yourself in, you can cooperate with them and help end this before you get yourself into any more trouble.”

She let out a little sob.

“ I don’t want to go to jail,” she said.

“ I can’t tell you what to do because I am not in your position,” I told her. “ But your options aren’t that great, especially if you run and get caught. That much I know.”

“ I don’t want to run,” Marissa told me. “ I just want this all to be over.”

“ Then you should call the Fed’s directly and turn yourself in,” I told her. “ That way you can explain your side of the story and what your sister did to you.”


“ Will you come and help me turn myself in?” she asked.

I was shocked. I didn’t know this girl and by agreeing to help her I was walking into the middle of trouble that had nothing to do with me, but I felt for her, because she sounded so scared, and I wanted to help her do the right thing.

“ Absolutely,” I said. “ I will be right there.”

I drove out through the pouring rain to the middle of the Wilshire district where Tara lives, then met them in their car, and we decided since it would most likely be a long night for Marissa, that we would go to Denny’s and she could get some coffee.

On the way, Marissa explained to me how she had been manipulated into helping her sister for fear of them ending up in a foster home. Marissa told me that she had witnessed her step father kill her mother, her brother, and her grandparents when she was nine years old, and that he has threatened to kill her with the same gun right then and there, but for some reason didn’t. She told me that her older sister was out of the house at the time, but returned to find her just before the police arrived, carting off her step father, who she claims later received 14 years on an insanity plea.

Marissa explained that her sister had drug problems, but that overall she was a good mother, and that she didn’t want to see Lexi and Justin in foster care instead of with their family.

“ I’ve been in foster care and I know what people do to you,” Marissa explained to me. “ They didn’t need to go through that. People get abused really badly in foster care.”

Marissa told me that she had unwittingly helped her sister get her children and leave the State, and that a series of crimes had taken place since then including identity theft, but that she had never maliciously hurt anyone and that her sister had been blackmailing her into keeping up the lie as well as working to support them all.

“ I just want to have a normal life and use my real name again,” she told me as we sat down in Denny’s and she ordered a strawberry shake and an appetizer plate. “ I used to go to college. I want to go back. I just want this all behind me.”

Tara called information and was patched through to the FBI in Los Angeles who took a while to locate the case, since no one expected this girl to be in California after starting in New York. They kept Tara on the phone while they informed her that detectives would come to pick Marissa up and that she would be taken good care of. The FBI assured Tara that Marissa was better off surrendering herself to the authorities and that it would help her in court.

Meanwhile, Marissa and I talked about her life in New York, her fears about being taken into custody, all the evil things her sister had done to her, and her dreams for a new life after this was over. I did my best to try to make her feel better, telling her that she was going to be better off now, and encouraging her to not waver when it came to telling them the truth. She agreed that it was best to tell them everything that she knew and not to hold anything back, even if it incriminated her, because she wanted to clean the slate.

As we talked more the Denny’s restaurant on Wilshire grew more packed with people coming in from dates and clubs on a Saturday night. We went outside to smoke and saw a police car watching us from a stoplight. The patrol car pulled around and parked near the Denny’s and the agent on the phone told Tara to take us back into the restaurant and sit down and wait while they came in.

“ That is them,” Marissa said to me before Tara could say anything. She took a long hit off the cigarette she bummed from me and put it out.

We walked back in and sat down amongst the rowdy patrons and shortly thereafter, six police officers came in and the room went dead quite. They worked their way towards us, covering all exits, then asked us to stand up and walk outside. No sooner than we were outside did they pull Marissa aside and search her, cuffing her right away, though civil throughout the arrest. Two officers pulled Tara and I aside and took down our information, then released us.

They informed Tara that Marissa would not go to County, but would be held on Wilshire until the Fed’s arrived to speak to her. This was a great relief to hear, since Marissa had been afraid of being taken to County jail, and Tara and I had done our best to try to keep that from happening by going directly to the FBI and surrendering. The officers also informed us that more than likely Marissa would be extradited back to New York, where this whole thing began.

As we climbed into Tara’s car in the rain, and all of the restaurant watch us through the large front window, I saw the police putting Marissa into the back of a car and getting ready to drive us away. I was glad that I wasn’t going with them, glad that I hadn’t been questioned since I didn’t know much about the girl, and kind of sad to see her go. Tara took me back to my car and I drove up Western and back towards home in Glendale. Both Tara and I were just too tired to talk much more about the incident, but we both felt good about the way that it had been handled and felt that Marissa was going to be better off for it.

An early morning phone call from the FBI informed Tara that sister Kimberly Alvarado, who was residing in Las Vegas until last nights broadcast, was picked up this morning with both children, Lexi and Justin, in San Bernadino County California. When Tara called me she was on her way to visit Marissa where she was being held.

The Department of Children's Services in New York charged that Alvarado had neglected to properly care for 5-year-old Justin Scaglione and 1-year-old Lexie Fennell-- and that Lexie had been burned but never taken to a hospital.

The two children were removed from Kimberly's care and placed with some relatives in Staten Island.

Sisters Snag The Children

According to police, the pair went to Staten Island and ransacked the place Alvarado's children were staying.

Witnesses say the two sisters yelled obscenities as they threw all of the children's belongings in their car. Then, witnesses say the sisters grabbed Lexie and Justin, put them in the car, and sped off. They have not been seen since.

The NYPD issued warrants for both Alvarado and Pomarico. Alvarado has previously been charged with larceny.
