Create the attachment just like you did, then view the message. Then click on " attachment" and copy the link in the address bar. Hit the back button to go back to the message and hit the "Edit" link. You'll see ta box to the lower right. Hit "Image" link. An edit box will come up. Paste the link in the form and click OK. Then reenter the message.
