all the talk about the purported demise of family seems to be missing something. most of the population growth now and in the immediate future is coming from immigrant groups traditionally valuing kinship just as highly as palefaces. whether it's religious like latin/south americans, a sense of renao and brotherhood in eating housepets like the chinese, or some multiarmed god thing from the indian subcontinent--there's always some grandparent or something in the picture with first-gens. with many successful 2nd generation indians, not a lot changes with respect to family, usually the same with muslims.
