I respectfully respect your respectful disagreement, Zigman, but respectfully disagree with your respectful disagreement. 'Gag Factor' is the result of a logical evolution in porn. "Set-ups" are a throwback to a time when pornography 1) aspired to a bourgeois concept of cinema, 2) felt it necessary to bury the nastier implications in some sort of subtext with a distancing artifice, and 3) needed a way to convince the women in the industry that they were "actresses" and thus get them to do some very private activity on camera. As is obvious, none of that is necessary or even desirable anymore. When a girl will get off the bus from Utah, walk into JM's offices, and hang her head UPSIDEDOWN off a couch to get throatfucked without asking what her motivation is, well, THAT bit of natural drama is far more interesting and compelling than any thin, poorly executed narrative element laid over top it could ever be. The really classic drama is in the minimalist image of that UPSIDEDOWN female head getting fucked heartlessly, and enduring it. It is Goya-esque in its minimalist horror and Shakespearean in its allegorical tragicness. "To be, or not to be?" isn't the question, exactly, but there IS definitely a question.
