Apparently there are 5 or 6 states in the South East where they're serving all-day breakfast biscuits instead of McMuffins. No, no hunting within the city limits. I think they sometimes have a hunt up on the hillside to try to limit the moose population, but I think it's bow & arrow hunting.

Every time I order coffee from an African American barista and absentmindedly blurt out, "just black," I feel funny as soon as I say it. Not that it happens often. I've seen maybe 2 black baristas up here, ever.

I don't consider Starbucks to be real coffee. I only go there when I want one of their breakfast sammiches and I get an iced latte with sugar-free vanilla, which is something I would never order anywhere else. I consider it a coffee-flavored beverage rather than an actual coffee.

I get black coffee there and get it over with. Sometimes an oatmeal/ no toppings though I move to the side and pour in tons of cinnamon. I like that they make their oatmeal with water, not milk.

Things to not to-do: Pack luggage while drunk. Thank God I brought my insulin at least.

Black everything works here. I know this from past trips, but 95% of the people here are dressed in black or charcoal. Then you have the occasional jogger who sticks out like a sore thumb. All of midtown seems to smell like a gyro.

You're closer to Bloomingdales and Banana Republic or Gap (huge sale at Gap now.) Just get plain black. No embellishments. Ever. Yeah, H+M typically runs small. I'd forgotten about that. Sorry. But they're great for forgotten accessories.

I walked it anyway. I love walking here. I've walked close to 6 miles today. I walk fast and this is the only place I've been where people walk faster than me. The pedestrian traffic here reminds me of schools of fish, all weaving left and right depending on what's in front of them. It would be a nightmare to drive in the city though, not because of the traffic, but because of the pedestrians. They walk into the intersection first, and THEN they look for cars.

I finally found some black jeans in my size...and they were too big; I had to go down a size. Go figure.

Things to not to-do: Drop a return UPS shipment containing my broken insulin pump into a FedEx drop-off bin before leaving town. If FedEx didn't hold onto that package, I'll be out the full replacement cost for the pump. Without insurance, that'll be somewhere around $8k. Gulp.

False alarm, I guess. The UPS tracking number now shows it was picked up today. Not sure why it took a week. Phew!

I completely avoid FedEX if possible. Fuckers are hard to get to pay for any damages.

Fed Ex guys and especially their female employees are huge assholes. I don't know what the company culture is like but their employees are complete fucking douche bags. I'd only use Fed Ex to ship documents. UPS and DHL for actual packages.

Didn't see a Walmart in Manhattan itself, but I'm sure they have them in the surrounding boroughs. And Walgreens there are called Duane Reade's. Kinda like how Hardee's and Carl's Jr's are the same.

Duane Reed is an nyc chain named after streets Duane and Reed. Walgreens bought them (last year?) and now they're buying rite aid. I loved Duane Reed's in house band aids that said 'I hurt myself' and bandages 'I cut myself.'

Fun fact: Kacey Jordan was rocking them when she actually did cut herself. Loved it!

Wow I miss New York. Everyone here in Anchorage is ugly and it seems like everything is moving in slow motion. I get this same feeling every time I come back from Vegas too.

Besides the energy and the great restaurants, I even miss the food delivery from Grub Hub. We had one night where we just stayed in and watched movies and the Italian food (Da Noi restaurant) I had delivered showed up in 45 minutes and was better than any Italian restaurant in Anchorage. Perfectly cooked rack of lamb, great calamari, real italian sourdough bread, etc. If I lived in Manhattan I might never cook another meal again. Why bother?

And I really miss baseball already. We'll get 'em next year!
