ENOUGH, ANTI-CONSUMERISM CAMPAIGN
WHAT IS ANTICONSUMERISM?
GREEN CONSUMERISM
This is where people purchase or participate in goods or services which attempt to replace existing ones with something designed to be 'friendlier' and less damaging to ecosystems and natural planetary defences
ETHICAL CONSUMERISM
This is a development of green consumerism which considers a variety of wider issues than just a product's green credentials, such as whether or not the manufacturer invests in the arms trade or has supported oppressive regimes. Through a comprehensive monitoring of the behaviour of modern business, ethical consumerism aims to encourage trade to be as responsible as is possible within the current economic system.
ANTICONSUMERISM...
however, challenges many of the assumptions about what is needed in contemporary society. Taking the view that the rich nations of the world are fundamentally damaging the planet and themselves in the pursuit of material acquisition, it raises the question, "How much is enough?" Rather than just buying green or ethically-produced goods, different ways of living, trading and working are advocated in order to 'live more lightly' on the Earth and be less dependent on buying things to feel good about ourselves.

In which camp do you live? Is that computer you are using really necessary for your life? Or is it something you just desired to own? It seems easy for you to reveal to us all this political rhetoric, but you don't seem to live any of it. Just my opinion nothing more.

Balderdash. More unthinking dogma from some left-wing kook who hasn't actually looked out his window to see what the Third World actually does.
The most obvious example of a third-world country trying to adopt a first-world consumer model is China. Parts of India are doing this too.
Western consumerism isn't hindering them; if anything Western consumerism is aiding their modernization in two ways: by making resources available and by providing markets by which goods can be sold that raise cash for modernization (i.e., providing trade opportunities so that third world countries can acquire goods they cannot yet manufacturer for themselves).
The usual tired complaint about resources is that the West is consuming so much oil that there is none left for anyone else. This is nonsense and directly contradicts the current world oil markets with respect to China. China is able to acquire oil with the same degree of effort and cost as the Western consumers, and the fact that the oil is available at all is due to consumer demand having been driving infrastructure development. China is able to buy from oilfields that would not be available in the short term were it not for Western consumer demand.
(in other words, it's not the case that but for Western consumerism the Third World would be able to buy North Sea oil at $5/barrel: without Western consumerism that oil would not be available at all, because no one would have developed the extraction infrastructure)
And where is China getting the cash to fund their modernization? Western consumers! Without Western consumers China would have far fewer opportunities for trade, and would have far less cash to buy technologies and finished goods needed to modernize. Being able to sell clothes to Western consumers is what raises the cash to buy machine tools, etc.

Good point, the computer is necessary. Anti-consumerism doesn't necessary mean living like a hippy. You still have to progress, it's how you do it and to what degree you go about things. For example I only have one computer because it's all that I need. Friends of mine have 2 or more computers. For what reason you ask? Some say for each family member in there house or just because. It's seems useless and waste to have 2 or more power draining computers just because or so families don't have to take turns using one.

I have two, out of necessity, one lap top and one PC. The PC is used by my wife while I travel. Still notice I have not insulted you.

All good points, can't argue with that.
