As far as automation, what makes you think a high minimum wage would have any bearing on that? If a company can cheaply automate and pay zero wages they would do it if the minimum wage was fifteen dollars or fifteen cents.

Eventually, everywhere you shop will be just like going to the grocery store. You get 2 options: self-serve checkout or wait in a long line and get helped by someone who is clearly developmentally challenged.
