I think Dana suffers from a nostalgic fallacy: that going back to home base will make everything ducky again.

For all we know, the sisters have been rivals since childhood. The sister, being the good daughter, stayed near the nest and maintained the family business and saw to Momma's wants and needs.

Maybe Dana had wanderlust but perhaps she was sort of a remittance man. In this scenario the remittance man does without the remittance but still has to am-scray. Is Dana the older or younger sibling? The filmed multiple miscegenations couldn't have helped her case amongst the Hayes kith and kin and probably helped seal the deal on the estate. I don't think it was the only factor, but probably weighed very heavily in the decision.
