Weird. I was just thinking about him last night. I was watching a clip of the actress Alice Eve on the Conan O'brien show, talking about how she has different colored eyes (heterochromia) just like David Bowie. Apparently, in England, they pronounce it Bowwy, like the bow of a ship.

Anyway, hearing his name made me think about how I'd heard a year or so back about how he was on death's door. Then, right after I heard he was going to die, he put out a brand new album and was supposedly fine. And today he's dead.

His heterochromia was very pronounced:

I would argue that Bowie is one of the top 5 most influential musicians of the past 50 years. Those five key 70s albums are the seeds that become so much of 90s music and beyond. Smashing Pumpkins built their entire shtick off Ziggy Stardust. So did the Pixies and many others. Young Americans with Luther Vandross set the style for tons of later crossover hits.
