Gia, can you ask your friend if she thinks Tesis (Thesis), a 1996 movie by Alejandro Amenabar (The Others, The Sea Inside, Open your Eyes) fits the bill?

I'd like to hear her take on the religious sexual guilt and denial themes in "Alice Sweet Alice" also other noteworthy that the 500 lb semi pedophile in the movie was a bouncer at a gay bar in real life, plus they portray the character more as a raging queen than a chomo. Also the Alice character actually sexually antagonizes the pedo. ( sucking frosting off the knife, ect). The actress playing the 12 year old was 17 at the time.

I have not seen Tesis. Looks like it's about snuff porn like Serbian Film, 8mm or Confessions of a Porn Gang. And having never seen Alice Sweet Alice for it is rare for me to follow slasher films... You have films like Pretty Baby and both versions of Lolita and Valerie and Her Weekend of Wonders that deal with forbidden subject matter. As for the reverse you have Hard Candy, which I believe works very well. Also The Little Girl that Lives Down the Lane—where the creepy guy is antagonized. Which is different then an incest theme you see a lot in horror and artsploitation. Maps to the Stars explores that, but House of Yes does it better. These are all, agains sexually forbidden subjects a lot of these dark films hinge on and the dark subject is not DEATH but some sort of perversion sexually.

What I would have added to the list if From Beyond and Matador.

I find the sexual ideas in Society, gross, sexual, stimulating, and I don't think ever explored since then. There is also the whole Vomit Gore Cannon, which seems to be horror/porn/fetish.

I've yet to see salo beyond bits and pieces. Pasolinis grizzly murder seemed like it could have been something from the movie its self. Bones and testicles crushed with a metal rod. Set on fire then ran over multiple times.

See Salo it is brutal in one sense and also let's up a bit during scenes where the Upper Class have their speeches. It creates some distance to the images that you are seeing. There are non-genre political pieces where are also anti-totalitarian like Come and See.

I think a lot of the indies explore the types of erotic nihilism I have been attracted to, though in porn I wonder how hard it would be to layer that desperate fuck into the film. And what the sales would look like.

I find, for myself, David Cronenberg does it right, that is everything pst Spider and the one scene in History of Violence.
