I don't think them haircuts are sending as many messages as you might think. I can appreciate the convenience of the spike in the back you mention, but it's likely just a side effect. Most likely they read about how to get your haircut to accentuate the shape of your face or skull and they go from there. The Peter Pans are just lazy and don't want to waste time fixing their hair. I do not blame them- hold those women by the ears.
