In "24," things can get ugly - partly due to dusty dialogue, partly because of ideology meant to justify oddities and stitch it all together.
Terrorism, foreign and domestic, is bad. Jack Bauer has to be edgy to do good.


"I don't have time for this."
Speed up a ridiculous turn of events, no matter how contrived.
Things are critical. You have to understand.


"Now!"
Point a gun into someone's face to force them to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Problems are eradicated. Solutions require sacrifice.


"Don't fight it."
Divert someone's attention for a while to then choke them out from behind and proceed with urgent matters.
Resistance will be crushed. Join the programme or take a nap.


"Please hold for the President."
Get orders directly from the source, not from bottlenecks.
If the President wants it done, it'll happen. Accept it.



The following takes place beyond good and evil.

Events occur out of love.



From Season 1



This is a professional mercenary hired to acquire essential material.
She just accepted another job from her boss, the same person who had her lover executed after this lover tried to renegotiate the mercenary's fee agreed upon beforehand.
She loves her lover. She loves her life more.



From Season 2



This is a religious fundamentalist, a sleeper agent sworn to fight the policy of the United States of America wherever she can.
She just killed people who discovered her identity - along with her husband.
She thinks her husband really was very sweet. She loves her cause.



From Season 3



This is the former wife of the President of the United States of America.
She just indirectly killed an influential member of her former husband's opposition.
She wants her old life back. She still loves her husband.



From Season 4



This is the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America.
He just authorised the torture of his son to make sure there's no connection between his progeny and the terrorists who took himself hostage and then tried to kill him earlier.
He loves his son. He loves his country more.



From Season 5



This is the love interest of Jack Bauer.
He just found out that she wasn't celibate after they broke up for a while and had an affair with a conspirator after they tried to have a relationship again and proceeds to interrogate her.
He loves her. He loves his work more.
