If we would have nuked Russia and China in the 50's, the world's problems would be much fewer today. Would have opened things up to cure a lot of smaller messes.

The fact is that the rest of the world are barbarians. And rather than treating them as such, we've shrugged off our responsibility to steward them because we have it in our heads that all cultures are equal, all races are equal. I blame it on Sweden. If the Swedes had not alerted the UN about all the radiation pouring out of Chernobyl, the plant would have melted into the groundwater and rendered most of Russia uninhabitable. And most of the men sterile, which would have prevented Alex in the first place.
