Don't these people watch "24?"

It was meant to be peddling the idea of torture to gain information to prevent terror attacks and the networks behind them.
I'm not sure if that panned out very well so far.

After Kiefer Sutherland got arrested for drunk driving or so and subsequently wasn't employed as Jack Bauer, torturing agent on "24," anymore, years passed, the guy got on some fitness regime and then it's off into the cellar with car batteries again. Things are critical, don't you see?

The story for the latest season seems to be incorporating more current events, like whether every country which could actually wants to have a U.S. drone base on its soil - or something to that effect.
