Miguel Cabrera just signed for 10yrs/$293million. Vesting options for years 11 & 12 at $30mill each, making his $353million dollar deal the largest in baseball history.

Television revenues in MLB are about to take a huge spike up. It's not butts in the seats paying for him. I'd also guess that the NHL salary cap is allowing Ilitich to drop some more coin on the Tigers.

Interesting times in Baseball when team like the Reds can afford to keep Votto, Bailey and Bruce. Lots of local TV revenue to go around, it seems.

Regional sports networks are very lucrative. They are paying a tremendous amount for content, and in return demand stars to generate ratings. In a small market, a Cano or Votto can carry the ratings. Bigger markets demand more stars to hold interest.

I wonder if the regional sports networks charge more for commercials on a day where a Kershaw, Verlander or King Felix is pitching?

With Jeter retiring after this year, YES nework ratings will tank, if A-Rod doesn't rejoin the team.

Who knows what the market will bear 10yrs from know. The Dodgers contract, which looks great know, may hamstring them in a decade. I have no clue why a team like that didn't just create their own network.

YES ratings will be fine. People that watch YES aren't tuning in to watch Jeter, they are tuning in to watch the Yankees. The Yankees will always have stars on their teams. The #1 team in the #1 market in the U.S. is always going to draw. The only thing that could make the ratings fall would be if the Mets landed Cabrera, Mike Trout, and Felix Hernandez.

W/o Jeter and A-Roid last year, the Yankee ratings were down. Soon as A-Roid got back on the field, ratings popped back up.

It is going to take a while for fans to acclimate to McCann, and its a crapshoot if Ellsbury stays on the field. No one really cares too much about Tex. With scrappy Gardener as the only homegrown position player, the cache of the team definitely takes a hit.

If the Mets young pitching is for real, and they get a big player or 2 before next season, they can take a large chunk of the fair weather fans in NYC, like they did in the mid-late 80s. During those days, George owned the back pages but the Mets owned the win column and fans.
