This might not seem as relevant to those living in other parts of the country, but I happen to live in San Diego, and quite a lot is being made of this documentary. And in particular as Sea World prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
My observation so far has been that anyone who has seen the film is passionately enraged by Sea World's treatment of its Orcas, and immediately announces their intention to boycott the park. If I then ask them to describe the specific grievance they have against Sea World, or what the film revealed that so enraged them, they simply say that I "MUST SEE THE FILM". However, whatever modest inclination I might have had to watch this movie has been severely dampened by everyone's self-righteous insistence that it's now some sort of moral obligation.
It bears an eerie resemblance to the wave of sanctimonious hysteria that followed the "Kony 2012" film.
So if anyone out there has seen this movie... is the upshot basically, you were horrified to discover that a 5 ton predator wasn't perfectly happy living in a swimming pool? 'Cuz if that's the case, I can save myself 83 minutes and keep enjoying the shows.
