When you're a non-performing, behind-the-scenes person in the adult industry, it can be a lonely place. It's almost like being an observer in the industry and an outcast in the mainstream world at the same time.

Dating can be quite difficult as most mainstream women don't want anything to do with a guy who works in the adult industry, and women in porn tend to drift more toward male talent, producers, directors, company owners or -- ah, the irony -- men and women outside the industry. Very few will even consider a lighting guy or camera guy for anything more than friendship.

Even when two adult industry pros manage to get together, it's still difficult. I've lost count of how many porn couples have hooked up and broken up in the three years I've been around.

But that's all beside the point. I would feel awkward as hell if I even tried to hook up with a woman in porn. They get hit on all the time by virtually everyone they meet, and the last thing I want is to be known as Mr. Unprofessional Creepy Camera-Tech Guy Who Asked A Porn Star For Sex -- because I know for a fact that people in this industry will find out if you're a creepy guy. Believe me, every time I go to work at KSEX or relax for an evening of Porn Star Karoake, those stories are floating around the back of my brain.

Even when I do attempt some lighthearted flirting, it comes off awkward. It's hard to be yourself when you keep thinking, These women get PAID to have sex on film. Not to have sex with me or anyone else on a porn shoot crew or with anyone at KSEX.

Although I have a few regrets, I'm very grateful for the friends I've made in the adult industry. Getting to know adult film stars on personally -- instead on just their porn star persona -- has been a big bonus for me. Most people I've met in the adult industry are the most thoughtful, giving and interesting people I've ever met.

So maybe the trade-off is worth it after all.

The problem with the armchair quarterbacks on this board is that most hide behind anonymous handles (inc. myself) and spout off at the sphincter of 'he did this, she did that', while I'm assuming they've never had the guts to confront the individual these alleged problems. For those of us in the industry, it's a chance to bitch about people we know within the safe confines of a anon ID. For those outside the industry, it's a chance for them to be just as cynical about 'the glamorous world of porn' as the people in it.

And yes, if someone blogs something amusing, then it's absolutely fair game. If it wasn't, then Luke, Gene, Mike, Gram etc would never get mentioned here, and nor would the people they blog about.
