Disclaimer-- I thought that somebody else had already started a thread about who you look up to and which also asked if you had a hero, but after 20 to 30 seconds of painstaking research, I didn't find it, so I decided to start my own.

So, I somehow stumbled upon an old article about James Randi this morning which mentioned his recent battle with cancer. Although the article was frustratingly vague on the details (as most articles that mention cancer seem to be) it appears that he was suffering with colon cancer (I think).

My respect for James Randi is pretty close to the way I felt about Christopher Hitchens. Although they played different "sports" and had different skills, they seemed to belong in the same league somehow.

Anyway, surprised by the somewhat dated article on his poor health, I decided to do a quick internet search (mainly to see if he was still alive) and after finding out that he was recovering from the cancer, I decided to watch a few of his videos on YouTube. This morphed into an all afternoon YouTube marathon of Randi, Hitchens, and others.

Do any of you have personal heroes?

Unless you're under the age of 12, athletes don't count--although I guess an exception could be made for Vince Lombardi.

Hitchens was fun and I loved how he had the balls to take a giant shit in the mummified cunt of mother teresa but most of him amounts to "look at me! look at me! I enjoy being confrontational!" And fuck his dick slurping of the bush administration towards the end of his life. I hope he's getting a jesus deep diver dildo shoved up his shit hole side ways for all eternity in hell.

The Amazing Randi had two very distinct careers. On one side he was a stage magician and performer who toured with Alice Cooper in the 70's and had two Guinness records for his stunts as an escape artist and on the other side he was an amateur astronomer, friend of Carl Sagan, author, teacher, lecturer, professional debunker and winner of a MacArthur Foundation fellowship and Richard Dawkins award among others.

Hitchens was very much the same. It would be a mistake to confuse his stage show with his day job.
