Winamp was the media player that, back in 1997, introduced many people to listening to music as MP3 files on the computer. Winamp came right about the same time many people were finally getting the hang of file-sharing music, and the player helped revolutionize the way we consume media.
After 15 years, Winamp announced on its website that it will be closing for good on December 20. Users will still be able to use their player, but the services associated with Winamp, which has been owned by AOL, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) since June 1999, will no longer be available.
MOTHER FUCKERS!!!!! I've been using WinAmp since it came out. I'm using it right now. I feel like a friend is dying. There are no words...
Anyone care to recommend a new audio file player that isn't I-tunes or Llama and is free. I have time I just downloaded the last released version of winamp so I'm good for awhile.
