If you were more enterprising Mr. Horton, you probably could have purchased the same model as your 7 y/o laptop, swapped the RAM and then resold the laptop.

Too bad it is old tech. I have the two 2gb chips that came with my laptop sitting around here some where. I would have sold them to you for $45.
