I believe you could find an equal fractured group of people who listen to "metal" either being far left, far right, or not giving a shit.....seeing as the definition is so broken up into, I hate to use the phrase but "subculture" would be apt as you have far left crusters, skin heads, jocks, nerds, straight edge, and doped up drunk scuzz balls all listening to some type of heavy metal/punk
