It's the height + weight. Every inch over 6 feet 2 inches decreases life expectancy. He died to young, but the chances of him making it a few years past 70 were very slim.

My dad's boss was 6'9" and 375+. Played pro football in the 50s and had the knees to prove it. Died at 97. That's the kind of shit I try to hold onto.

Where did that stat come from? Actuary tables? I never heard a correlation between height and life expectancy before.

Actuary tables. But (as in the case Barry just mentioned) if Gandolfini had made it past a certain point without a heart attack, he probably would have outlived any skinny brothers he had.

My doctor told me when I turned 45 that just being 45- 52ish was a risk factor in and of itself. There's no getting out alive.

Not sure of the accuracy, but it's true that you don't see many guys that are both old and tall/fat.

Tall fits into it too. I think that we're supposed to be within certain parameters...from an engineering standpoint. Anything that deviates from that seems to start problems that just lead to more problems. Just a theory.

Well, of course there's tall and fat old guys, they're just not very common. A couple of the grocery stores I go to are populated by about 85% old folks. I'm talking like over 70. Most of the men are about 5'8" or under and weigh about a buck sixty.

Seriously, how many old, big dudes do you see? I'm 6'6". I'm living my life for the moment. But as far as height/weight charts and shit go, my doctor recently mentioned to me that the insurance companies came up with them a long time ago just to fuck people on their premiums.

Oh, I totally agree with you. The ones you do see are usually fucked up. I wish I could live in the moment, but I "what if" think way too much. After 46 I've started to really dwell on what happens to big guys when they age.
