What does the signal have to pass thru to get to the other side of your shop? Is your router currently on the same side of the house your shop is on? If not you might try just moving it to get as close as you can and try it. That’s almost free. Then you’d know if an 802.11n router would work for sure, but yes the 802.11n range is much better than its predecessors. I'm not sure about the latest standard 802.11ac though.


I believe my laptop and the iPad are good with 802.11n. I have the router in my room, which is the closest in the house to the shop. I get great signal in the shop, except when I have boxes stacked up between the laptop and the router.

Signal has to pass through paneling, plywood, aluminum siding. It is also next to a window though. To get into the shop, vinyl siding, plywood and sheetrock.

This should give you an idea of the distances I'm working with.
