Maybe you should put the hard drives in a new enclosure. I had a 2.5" external hard drive that stopped reading after a year or so, nothing helped until I swapped the enclosure. Same thing happened to another 2.5 hard drive, but new USB cable solved the problem. I think that the controller card inside the 1st hard drive died, because I tried other hard drives with it and it wouldn't work.
