Actually they outspent their means and the rampant bureaucratic corruption, that is inherent in any massive government structure, finally made it unfeasible to hold themselves together anymore. That's right the USSR fell apart because they were doing what we are currently doing. I'll be glad when the Dept. of Education is shutdown, I mean if they won't even teach you children a factual version history anymore, what's the point?
