It's pretty much pro whoar paint on and raw materials appear refined all of a sudden.
It's just like HD. People have pores. Wow. For a while. Then it's nothing much.
In some documentary, Steven Hirsch of Vivid mentioned that their editors had to get dialed into their post processing filter when HD was new in porn. He probably meant a compromise between glamourish soft-focus effects - the stuff people used to do with Vaseline on their lens in the 70s, I guess - and sharpness, thus detail.
That was all fun until they or others began to rent or buy RED One cameras to really let the rest look like shit.
Try it sometime, if ideology allows it; look at something shot on the thing by Digital Playground on Blu-Ray on a decent display and try to convince anyone that the golden age of porn was decades ago and on film without getting laughed at viciously. Nostalgia aside, there is no comparison.
