Deeper than your average gonzo and sleazier than the usual big budget porn epic, Wasteland creates it’s own hardcore noir genre. Bright Lights above, dark city below. That’s L.A. impure and simple, though the city is complex in its sins. Many have been used up and left with regret. There's more to this flick than I care to discuss, draw your own conclusions without my interpretation. This is actually worth watching for more than just the sex as I’m one never to have patience with porn acting, dialogue or really paying attention to the stories in porn, so that’s saying a helluva lot because it isn’t some vanilla production. The only porn director whose movies were worth watching in their entirety was most of Gregory Dark's body of work, but that seems like long ago now. Lily Carter and Lily Labeau really embody their roles. The depravity of the orgy scene reminds me of the sleaziest Jennifer Connolly moments in Requiem For A Dream if you know what I mean.

Figgs posted something a few months ago when they put the trailer up and I casually bashed it.

Elegant Angel mainly puts out DVDs, of almost anything they do, then it gradually becomes available online with about one scene per title per day or so, then they eventually put out Blu-Ray Discs of their better-selling titles.

DVDs aren't the medium of choice for people who want good video.
Downloads in HD are good, Blu-Rays are better.
It really is that simple.

This flick was released as a version with extended fucking in HD as a download on their site a while back, if I'm not mistaken.
It worked out pretty well in Pirates II on Blu-Ray and gives the whole thing a more gonzo-like style instead of the short or very short edited down fucking in the usual cut.
It should apply here as well and should be worth checking out the unwatched disc once in a while. If they didn't include the extended cut on the Blu-Ray, something went wrong.

Yes, I neglected to mention it's 2 disc set with extended sex scenes on disc 2.
However, as to the DVD quality, it might depend on your set up because their DVDS still look pretty darn good, though they obviously use some best cameras money can buy. Honestly, I watch DVDS on a beast of a Mac though. Not sure how much Blu-Ray is selling these days. As I've got a stack of mainstream Blu-Rays of my faves unopened, maybe I'm lazy, but iTunes downloads are solid enough. The Elegant Angel Blu-rays I've watched look amazing. I have yet to see any of their downloads, but mp4 is the digital crystal of visuals.

No DVD will hold up on my setup. Most HD sources reveal their inadequacies very obviously on it. 2nd generation Kuro, still going strong after four years, but said to be surpassed by the top line plasmas Panasonic puts out this year, with added gimmicks, but most noteworthy bigger screen sizes and - even better - 120 Hz playback, instead of 72 Hz with 1080p/24 input.

Just to mention something:

There's nothing better than 1080p/24 video from a Blu-Ray.
The best image quality in porn is delivered by Digital Playground this way, as they actually shoot with some of the best cameras abailable; the RED One or a different model from the same company. The Girlfriend Experience was shot on it as well.

Elegant Angel seems to shoot on prosumer camcorders, which deliver good quality, not excellence. Their material looks good.

Elegant Angel's 1080p downloads look pretty good, but not as good as their Blu-Ray releases. It most likely has to do with a higher bitrate, better encoding or both.
The framerate isn't the same as the one it was shot in, I think. It is around 30p, not 24p. This leads to obviously different motion depiction. For those who've gotten used to seeing it displayed correctly, it's said that there's no going back. Some don't see it, know about it or whatever else and don't care. DVDs can't really show the effect. It's there.

Technicalities and splitting hairs aside, I'm happy with my set up and how it appears to me on my specific devices. That's all I really care about.
Overall, DVD as we know it, for those who still buy them should fulfill the average porn consumer's basic prurient needs.

I could check on the Blu-Ray sometime. There's no info about it I cared to dig up and HD's still disregarded by most reviewing porn, so good luck finding comprehensible info about it online by people who know their stuff and don't write an advertorial piece.

If anyone cares, there's a notice at the beginning of Wasteland on Blu-Ray Disc, disc 1:

"The sex scenes in this movie have been modified and shortened to format the story. Full and extended sex scenes are available as extra bonus features on Disc 2."

And there they are. The 1080p/24 video looks nice, probably a step up from their other material, probably captured with better sensors.
