Consoles are okay and definitely where the money is; my preference of consoles vanished once the visual fidelity aspect came into play.

Higher resolutions, higher framerates, better anti-aliasing or at least an added version where none is available in the game, either in versions on consoles or on the PC, more effects in the engine and at better settings.

If your PC hardware is beefy enough, you'll get far better framerates, as already mentioned, but where it gets actually interesting is when you have a 120 Hz monitor and get 120 different frames rendered in the game engine displayed on it. That's smoothness possible nowhere else, as far as I know. The current crop of HDMI standards in use today aren't capable of 1080p output at 120 Hz, but I might be off here.

So what television displays used for console gaming do is frame doubling, tripling and more. Multi-purpose displays do the same, by the way.

You can put in 1080p at 60 Hz, let every frame get displayed twice and end up at visually not tiring 120 Hz on capable hardware, but won't only have frames captured in the engine of a game, on the set of a film or the dungeon of a rape castle on your screen. What you'll get are frames with a personality disorder in terms of motion depiction and a lot of frames generated by the processing of the display.

To find the true identity of a frame captured, not generated, you'd have to turn all the shitty over-processing gimmicks off coming with modern sets nowadays, feed it material actually shot in whole frames - which in porn still doesn't quite seem to be the standard - and if it was it isn't exactly clear that it'll get delivered in the framerate it was shot in, especially online.

Take Dead Space 3, for example. It recently was released and, if you configure it as the common sense of a PC gamer dictates, runs like utter shit on modern hardware.
That's probably because what most people neglect to tell you when they say consoles are "HD" is that they mean 720p, which has about half the amount of pixels 1080p has. That in modern, big games this quite low resolution sometimes isn't even met because they have too much going on is just bad technologically. Ridiculously slow GPUs render 30 frames to then probably double them to 60 or 60 different frames are rendered. That's not smooth.
So when you tell the engine all Dead Space titles are running on to do what the developers forgot to get tested and checked out, you'll laugh at how bad it looks and how stuttering the movement is on consoles.
The difference in the amount of immersion is very pleasing.



Good HD porn's the only porn worth watching anyway and file sizes are okay to deal with on most connections.
