Political correctness - or hypocrisy - is just an annoying attempt to appear caring while not doing so and easily discarded as superfluous social make-up. Don't mind the lizard skin.
13+ years in the dogooder industrial complex have told me you're exactly right. They love the idea of caring more than they do the actual work that comes with true caring.
As an aside, dogooders are the most cruel people you will ever come into contact with in a workplace. While not shocking in and of itself, the ability to preach tolerance, respect, inclusion...all that shit, while at the same time jamming a knife in your back is so hypocritical it's staggering.
