This week Sydney Airport went into full duress alert when baggage handlers found what they thought was a bomb in the cargo hold of a virgin blue 737. Then the following caucophony of errors occurred:-
* Baggage staff picked up the item and carried into the fucking passenger terminal for x rays
* The AFP were not informed for more than 1 hour after the discovery
* The aircraft was allowed to take off and complete two more commercial flights full of passengers before it was toe tagged by the AFP and searched properly
The we get THIS in today's news:-

September 24, 2004
A SUSPICIOUS device found in the baggage compartment of a Virgin Blue flight turned out to be a toy firecracker a teenager had put in his luggage, Australian Federal Police said today.

No bomb ... Police say there will be no charges over the incident.
An AFP spokeswoman said a 13-year-old boy was interviewed today and identified the homemade firecracker after investigating officers showed it to him.
She said after interviewing the teenager the AFP was satisfied there had been no threat and there was no malicious intent.
Even if someone had put a cigarette lighter to it, it would not have exploded, the spokeswoman said.
No further action will be taken and no charges laid.
The spokesman said the matter was now in the hands of the boy's parents.
"The AFP investigation into the discovery of suspect item ... has been finalised," the spokeswoman said.
"AFP officers interviewed a young teenager who identified the suspect item as a homemade firecracker that he was carrying in his luggage on the flight from Maroochydore to Sydney.
"Police are satisfied that this firecracker posed no threat to the aircraft and that there were no malicious intent.
"The AFP will not be taking any action ... he's not going to be charged."
Baggage handlers discovered the device in a knotted plastic bag along with matches in the cargo hold of a Virgin Blue jet on Monday, sparking a major security scare.
