@ivor Absolutely true on the dad thing. I can't even imagine pulling shit while my dad was around. The problem is that we're talking about a rage that overwhelms any fear you have of anything. Put a different way, I can't imagine pulling a knife on my mom...or anyone...short of a threat to me and mine. I wouldn't do it because it's not in me.
The bourgeoisie comment was intended to emphasize that the shooter came from a family in the VERY upper strata of American society. The GOPers like to engage in sociological exercises about makers and takers. The shooter's father may be a "maker" (or may not but that is an entirely different issue), but the son is one of worst "takers" to ever slither across this planer, worse than a million food stamp recipients.
On the other issue, i had a turbulent drug and alcohol filled adolescence but also never suffered from that type of rage. Has I been rage-plagued though I still might have been able to exercise control since facing the old man after he heard that I threatened to knife my mother would have been unthinkable. Taking a beating has always been something to be avoided, so I would have been forced to take measures to put a substantial distance between myself and home.
