locals (emirati) comprise of about 15% of the population in the UAE. they aren't the most motivated (or skilled) bunch of folks but they are rich as fuck, so people come here from all over asia to build, process, deliver, educate, and fix what/whoever is necessary. it's an amazingly cliched and hierarchical society: expats are all servants here, regardless of whether you are a garbage collector, a CEO or a brain surgeon. that plus the fact that music is banned (sharia) will see me leaving the country at the end of my current contract.
