And here's where I get lost. Why expend so much political juice on her? Because Smits said to? "Hey, your boys snatched her...what were we gonna do?...go to war over a beautiful soul?". They looked like total pussies in front of the Mexicans. Let them have her and cut her head off. I absolutely agree with you. I was scratching my head during that entire scene.
The only thing I can figure out is that Jax wanted to keep Smits on his good side so he could partner with him in the whore business to raise the $50k that he promised Pope.
I hope that was the plan. If not, Jax just came off looking like some kind of Captain Save-A-Ho pussy.
