McKinley/ Bryan. Mostly because McKinley's death led to the ascension of Teddy Roosevelt who was instrumental in turning the US into a global power.

Kennedy/ Nixon? Horrible choice. Both were incompetent.

Bush 41/ Clinton? No good choice, but at least both were qualified for the job.
